Children's Ministry Construction Project Underway

When Christian Education classes resume in the fall, children will return to a fresh new look downstairs. Redeemer’s construction project to expand the Children’s Ministry area will take place this summer. Funded by the Building for the Future campaign, the project will more than double the amount of space available for children’s ministry in Redeemer’s facilities, bringing the total to 7,000 square feet.

The centerpiece of the project is a 2,000 square foot large group assembly area with a raised stage at the front, space for seating or standing assemblies, and corners for reading or small group gatherings. This will provide space on Sunday mornings for a large group time of singing or other activities before the start of CE classes, as well as a central location for assemblies during events like Vacation Bible School.

RPC Executive Director of Operations Jeremy Whitley says that beyond simply providing more room, the project is intended to make the children’s ministry area a welcoming space where Redeemer’s children can feel at home.

“Much like the youth have their space in the building where they can feel comfortable and have a sense of community and belonging, that’s what we are hoping to create in these spaces for the younger children in our church,”
Whitley says.

The Children’s Ministry area will gain an enclosed lobby with a wall of windows and defined entrance. At the heart of that space is a new check-in center built around a column fashioned to look like a tree, where children can be checked in to CE for classes. The project will add three new classrooms, one of which will be fitted with retractable room dividers to create separate spaces for larger class groups.

Staff and volunteers involved in children’s ministry at Redeemer worked closely with the architects during the design process. One much-requested feature of the expansion is a work room for children’s ministry staff and volunteers with storage for curriculum and supplies.

RPC Director of Children’s Ministries Sarah Beaugh says her own children were thrilled to see the renderings of plans for the new space at the Building for the Future Campaign celebration in April, and she hopes all the children at Redeemer will join in the anticipation as the construction project proceeds this summer.

“This project represents a commitment to the spiritual development happening in our children,” she says. “This space will physically connect them to our church while communicating the importance of their growth in the gospel.”
