In July, Redeemer will debut a new event: The Redeemer Block Party is a night of fun and fellowship on the Redeemer campus, and a great opportunity to invite friends to experience the Redeemer community. We are excited to begin hosting this summer event on our block. The first Redeemer Block Party will take place on Sunday, July 22nd.

The block party will replace one of our longest-running events, Redeemer in the Country. Redeemer did not have a permanent location for the first 12 years of its existence, so all church events took place on private properties or parks around San Antonio.

Redeemer in the Country grew out of the generous hospitality of Dan and Harriet Peavy and their family, who hosted the congregation at the Peavy Ranch near Blanco, Texas. We are so thankful to them for opening their family property to us and making that event possible for so many years.

Given Redeemer’s rapid growth and securing of a permanent location, the time has come to transition this event. Practicing hospitality at our downtown campus reflects Redeemer’s deeply held commitment to being part of the life of our city and welcoming our neighbors into our church community. We hope that the festive, casual atmosphere and convenient location of this event will make it easy to invite your friends and neighbors. As we develop the campus to greater capacity over time, our hope is also for our large events to draw people and families from the surrounding neighborhood with no personal connection to the church.

For the inaugural block party, we will transform the parking lot and green space adjacent to the River City Federal Credit Union into a festive communal space. There will be food trucks on site including Cheesy Jane’s and Las Nieves Italian Ice.

The green space will be blocked off from the street to create safer boundaries for children playing. We’ll have tents to offer shade, and the shade will increase as the evening goes on and the sun lowers behind the RPC and credit union buildings. We’ll enjoy a movie on an outdoor screen in the green space, so bring lawn chairs and blankets!

We hope you will come and linger with old friends and new friends and enjoy the place God has given us in San Antonio. Please be in prayer for this new event, and make plans to join us!

The Redeemer Block Party will take place from 6:30 p.m. until after dark on Sunday, July 22nd. Registration will open later in June.
