Speaking Hope to One Another in Fall Bible Studies

What a world we live in. Open a computer or a smart phone; turn on a radio. Tragic and disturbing news of brokenness, hopelessness and despair pours out. How do we live in such a world? If we have children, how do we equip them for such a world?

The Bible tells us we are not to fight this battle alone, but side by side in the body of Christ, with the word of God dwelling in us richly, speaking to one another in another in Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in our hearts to God (Col. 3:15-16). We must have women we can text or call at a moment’s notice to speak truth into our lives, and we must regularly gather together to remind one another of what is true.

Gloria Furman is a pastor’s wife in Dubai who leads Bible studies for women from many nations. She puts it this way:

As we wait for the day of redemption that Paul talks about in [Ephesians] 4:30, we need daily intervention. We need the body. We need people on speed dial. I call them and say, “Tell me something good... tell me something true.” You need someone in your life to help daily intervene. Our steps can so easily drift into the shadows. Walking in love is a community project because we are living in response to what God is doing as he sums up all things in Christ. And we do this together as a church.

This fall in our Women’s Bible Studies, we will come together to drink deeply of the book of Ephesians and to consider how to stir up one another to love and good works. The only offensive weapon in the armor of God is the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. We are called to study this powerful truth and to speak it to one another in love. The book of Ephesians tells us we are a new creation—but fighting this battle to see the reality of the new creation in our own lives and our world is not done individually with “me and Jesus.” It is done in the community of the church.

In order to help our women go deep with one another in intimate, life-changing friendships, we have reformatted our Bible study. We will begin with small groups where women dive into the Word and apply it to their daily lives together. We will wrap up with a large-group teaching time. Your presence and wisdom are a blessing, and we need and want you to bless and be blessed in our body!

God’s truths and his faithfulness in our lives are something we are to talk about continually—whether in women’s Bible study, VBS snack room, setting up communion, in the hospital waiting room, the local little league field and on and on. This continual encouragement of one another within the local church body cannot happen without our presence in our local church body. Regular study of God’s Word together among women within His church leads to amazing transformations.

So, let us leave off being children “tossed to and fro by the waves.” Rather let us speak the truth in love to one another that we may grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ (Ephesians 4:14-15). See you at Redeemer Women’s Bible  Study!
