The entire first floor is beginning to take shape. The walls in the office and nursery have been framed and will be sheet rocked in the next few weeks. By the beginning of the year they will have electric wires run and new air conditioning units installed. The primary work on the first floor is in the sanctuary. They are installing the steel structure which will hold the sculpted ceiling. What a difference two weeks makes! What had been complete rubble has turned into something that resembles our new home. The demolition is complete in the upstairs and has moved into the basement. They waited to start on the basement for two reasons: 1. the upstairs is the more complex area of construction (with the Sanctuary and Entryway), and 2. the basement has much more material to be removed. It was so exciting to see construction underway in full force today. Now that building permits have been acquired, the first step in our renovation is removing the hallmark features of the YMCA: showers, saunas, locker rooms, workout areas, and yes, even the pool. As you can see, the power is off in the building and it’s dark and messy. Heavy machinery is knocking down walls and clearing out space.
