News on my trip to Ukraine

November 25, 2014
Rev. Dr. Tom Gibbs
It has been more than a month since I returned from Ukraine, and my vision for a blog post about my trip quickly evaporated amidst the array of activity waiting for me upon my return. But as they say, it’s better late than never. So, here goes. After two weeks away, I returned from Ukraine on October 21st. While there I was able to speak at two different ministry conferences. The first one was focused on mostly American missionaries serving in Ukraine. The second conference, held in the beautiful city of L’viv in western Ukraine, was for ...

2014 End-of-Year Giving Update

November 13, 2014
Rev. Dr. Tom Gibbs
Dear Members and Friends, As 2014 comes to a close, I do not exaggerate when I say that God has given Redeemer Presbyterian Church a banner year. Redeemer’s vision to be a church in the city and for the city is becoming reality. Looking back now on more than twelve years of ministry in San Antonio, God’s promise to bless his people and extend his kingdom could not be truer. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for wholeness and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jer. 29:11 After much prayer and ...

CG Map

October 13, 2014
Benjie Slaton
I’m excited to introduce a new online tool for our congregation.  It’s an interactive community group map.  This map is designed to help folks in our church find a smaller, local place to belong.  As our church grows, we want to continue to find ways for each of us to participate in the depth of community life. The map is simple to use – each group has a pin with an approximate meeting location along with other important details.  We hope you will use it for yourself and also help your friends who are new to our church get connected. But, ...

Pray for Ukraine

October 06, 2014
Rev. Dr. Tom Gibbs
Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed on and triumph. (2 Thess. 3:1; RSV) On Tuesday, I depart for Ukraine for two weeks of ministry. Tara departs next Tuesday, Oct. 14th. This will be my third trip to Ukraine and Tara’s second. While there I will have the privilege of sharing at the country-wide missionary conference for all Mission to the World (MTW) missionaries. The second week will be devoted to a conference for Ukrainian ministry leaders focused on the challenges of leadership in ministry. I know that ...

Ever Dream of Going to Seminary?

September 24, 2014
Bryce Waller
As many of you know, Redeemer Presbyterian has begun a partnership with Redeemer Theological Seminary to begin offering theological education right here in San Antonio. One of the ways the seminary hopes to serve the church in our city is by offering deeper theological training not only to would-be pastors or missionaries, but to church members as well. So, if you’ve ever dreamed of going to seminary, now may be your chance… On October 2nd, Redeemer will offer its first course in San Antonio, and there is still time to register! The course ...

One Life. What's It All About?

September 17, 2014
Benjie Slaton
'One Life.  What's It All About?' is the tag line for the Christianity Explored class that began last Sunday at Redeemer. This class is the first in our 6-class Spiritual Formation curriculum. It's a unique and important class. Christianity Explored is a unique place for non-Christians, former Christians, young Christians and even mature Christians to gather in an informal setting to discuss Jesus.  The class gives space for people to ask and discuss questions.  We won't ask anyone to pray out loud or sing songs.  We will, however, help ...

Rev. Dr. Tom Gibbs
Redeemer Presbyterian Church is excited to announce that Redeemer Theological Seminary will be offering classes in our building beginning this upcoming fall. It is hoped that within only a few years, San Antonio will be a full, degree-granting site of Redeemer Seminary, which already has sites in Dallas and Austin. Many of you have already heard about Redeemer Se minary because staff members, Matt Beham and Curtis Castleberry, have been taking classes in Austin for the past several years. Hopefully this will mean less driving for them! From ...

Brent Watkins Announces Transition!

June 16, 2014
Brent Watkins
Dear Redeemer Family & Friends, I am writing this letter to inform you of my upcoming transition out of the role of Redeemer’s Director of Music Ministries. For the past nine years it has been an honor and a joy to serve at Redeemer in this capacity. Working under the leadership of Pastor Tom Gibbs, and alongside the stellar staff at Redeemer has been an incredible experience, and I have personally learned more than I can put into words. Having watched Redeemer grow from a small church plant to a robust congregation (now with a permanent ...

Update on River City Federal Credit Union Acquisition

June 03, 2014
Rev. Dr. Tom Gibbs
Following the worship service this last Sunday, the Session met to consider making a final recommendation in regard to purchasing the River City Federal Credit Union (RCFCU). After a lengthy due diligence period during which funds were raised for the down payment, financing was secured through the RCFCU and a lease arrangement was negotiated with RCFCU for their occupancy, the Session is pleased to recommend to the congregation: To authorize the trustees of Redeemer Presbyterian Church of San Antonio to purchase the River City Federal ...

Open House and Community Party

May 27, 2014
Rev. Victor Martinez
This past Sunday Redeemer Presbyterian Church had the blessing to hold our first worship service in our own permanent space. We enjoyed a wonderful time of celebration starting with worship services and followed by a reception with food, a band, cake and a lot of good conversations. We are overjoyed that we now have a place in the very heart of the city! But, in order to be a place, it must be inhabited. Generally speaking, this is one of the most important questions a church can ask: What does it mean to be present as a church in our very ...

It is with great joy and in an attitude of profound thanksgiving to God that I write, inviting you to Redeemer Presbyterian Church’s Grand Opening and Dedication of its new facility in downtown San Antonio on May 25th, 2014. Declare his glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples! (Ps. 96:1-3) If you are relatively new to Redeemer Church, it may be ...

Rev. Dr. Tom Gibbs
With all of the excitement about Redeemer’s upcoming transition, it is important that we not overlook this year’s slate of officer candidates, who will be voted on at a congregational meeting on June 1st following the 10:45 a.m. worship service. On May 1st, the Session announced to the congregation that John Browning, Jason Smith, Winston Meeker and Henry Sauer are candidates to serve on the Session as ruling elders. Having already served in this capacity, John Browning and Jason Smith are eligible to return to the Session. Jason Smith ...
