As 2016 comes to a close, I think many of us are looking forward to the new year in hopes of better things. When considering the world stage, 2016 has not been easy. Militant Islamists continue to strike terror across the Middle East, Africa and portions of Europe. Even here on American soil we must be ever vigilant to negotiate this threat. The country of Ukraine, which is dear to our congregation, fights occupying Russian forces in the eastern portion of the country and small skirmishes take lives almost daily....

We wanted to encourage parents to be talking with your children this week about thankfulness and true gratitude. In CE this past week, we discussed a deeper meaning and how thanksgiving can lead us toward Advent. We are pleased to announce that Norma Choate has joined the Redeemer staff as our new full-time Assistant Administrator! Norma is originally from Corpus Christi and moved to San Antonio in 2006. She is married to Caleb and they have two dogs and a cat. They have been faithful attenders at Alamo Heights Baptist since 2006. Norma has a heart for hospitality and serves on many committees at her church. She and Caleb love the outdoors and enjoy any chance to go camping and kayaking.

New Children's Choir Starting!!!

In you case you haven’t heard, we’re launching The Redeemer Children’s Choir for children ages 2nd through 5th grade. This new program is being started through the Music Ministry. Through this choir, we hope to bring musical excellence to Redeemer’s worship. This will also give elementary-age children an opportunity to develop singing skills, to grow in fellowship and community, and to participate in worship a new and meaningful way.

We’re excited to be kicking off another school year of CE for our Pre-K through 5th grade students! Sunday, August 21st marks our kick-off Sunday. We will have a short Meet-and-Greet time with teachers for students to visit their classroom. Parents, please stay with your children during this time. Families can see where each student will be and meet the teaching teams for each class. The Open House time will run from 10:45-11:15. Our kick-off luncheon will begin at 11:30. We wanted to highlight the new “Sermon Notes” we have for kids. You’ll notice the formatting is different than what we had this fall, but similar to what we had before that. Our intention is to aid kids in focusing on the sermon (rather than merely distract or redirect attention). We wanted to give you three ways you can utilize this tool for your own interactions at home:
1) Ask your children to take notes or draw pictures of what they heard during the sermon and then ask them about it at lunch. You could even “quiz” them.
