Clarity & Connection: Building a Real Life in the Online Era

Join us for a practical discussion of how technology has reshaped the landscape of life, and what the latest research tells us about what children, teens (and adults!) really need to live healthy, connected lives.

Our speaker, Annie Mays, Associate Regional Director for Young Life in South Texas, a longtime Redeemer member, and a mom to three daughters, will lead us in considering how to navigate an increasingly digital world while preserving what God created us for – real-life relationships and face-to-face community. In 22 years of working with teenagers, Annie has had an up-close view of the changes social media brought to childhood and adolescence. Annie will lead us in a discussion of the research presented in social scientist Jonathan Haidt’s book The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness.

Haidt’s book unpacks years of research on the impact digital devices and social media have on children and teenagers and offers practical insights on how to protect childhood while preparing young people for a connected world.

Whether you are parenting young children, have teenagers on social media, or are trying to find balance in your own use of technology, we hope you will join us for this important discussion. Admission is free, so invite a friend!
