2017 Summer Dialogues in Theology

"Why grace Matters"

This year's Summer Dialogues in Theology will study Sinclair Ferguson's book The Whole Christ (available for purchase on the church book table). Against the backdrop of The Marrow Controversy, a little-known theological dispute that occurred among early 18th century Scottish Reformed and Presbyterian churches, Ferguson explores how the wonderful message of grace impacts the Christian's approach to sharing Christ, obedience in our sanctification and our assurance of salvation. This study is open to anyone; please invite your friends!

"What is the gospel, and how are we to preach it? The Marrow Controversy raised these vital questions. That was why it is of more than antiquarian interest. Nor was it an ethnic, distinctively Scottish controversy. It was a gospel one. It highlighted the error of separating the benefits of Christ's work from the Savior himself. ... What Marrow theology grasped was the New Testament's stress on the fact that when we are in him, we possess Christ himself; all spiritual blessings are ours immediately and simultaneously in him." Sinclair Ferguson
