What To Expect

Welcome
Visiting a new church can be a daunting prospect. For this reason, we want to prepare you for what you will experience on a typical Sunday at Redeemer.

Redeemer is a new congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America. Age-wise, we are relatively young. On an average Sunday morning, attendance is around 550 with 40-50 visitors joining us weekly. We are a church committed to reaching the city of San Antonio as well as South Texas with the ancient and transforming message of the Gospel.

Worship
Our two worship services formally begin at 9 & 10:45 am. At the beginning of our worship we sing several songs and offer prayers of adoration, confession and thanksgiving to our God. This is followed by listening to Scripture read and preached, the weekly celebration of the sacrament of Communion, and the giving our tithes and offerings. Finally, we are sent out with the gracious embrace of our God to engage the world.

The two words that we would use to characterize our worship are truth and vibrancy. Regarding truth, our worship seeks to be God-centered and Gospel-Driven. It also seeks to be historically connected, recognizing that there is a long history of true and vibrant worship that has preceded us and from which we can draw. For this reason, we make use of ancient hymns, creeds and liturgical forms. And with regard to vibrancy, our worship seeks to be contextual, that is, it makes use of current idioms, styles and music arising from today. It also seeks to engage the whole person – heart, mind and will.

Sermons
Preaching at Redeemer is expositional, meaning that it seeks to proclaim and unfold the meaning and significance of the biblical text for the purpose of engaging the whole person. Sermons usually last between 25-30 minutes and are meant to show forth how God, through a particular passage of Scripture, reveals both our need of God’s grace and his provision of that grace in his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. In this way, the sermon seeks to be both Biblical and transformational. This is what we mean by the term Gospel-Driven…for if a sermon is not Gospel-Driven it is not biblical.

Post Sermon
We provide coffee and light refreshments in the large foyer outside the sanctuary immediately after worship to encourage fellowship. This is a great time to meet new people and catch up with old friends.

Christian Education
Christian Education is an integral facet of Redeemer’s overall ministry of Gospel transformation. We offer classes and seminars that present a gospel-centered worldview, emphasize the transformation of the entire person and apply the gospel to the realities of diverse life-stages, professional needs, and personal circumstances. These classes begin at 11am and conclude by 12:00pm.

By God's grace and all for His Glory, Redeemer Presbyterian Church exists to worship God's greatness, grow in Gospel freedom and extend God's kingdom in San Antonio and beyond.
