Learning about worship at church and at home

We want to update you on what we have been learning in CE the last two weeks so you can continue the conversation at home! In our classrooms, we have been learning about the parts of the worship service as well as the how and why we come together corporately to worship God. We worked through the order of worship together using our church bulletins. We discussed how we are part of the family of God and how he initiates and speaks to us and we respond. It is the conversation of a father with his children. We hope you will ask your child more about what they have learned and use these topics as jumping off points for further discussions this summer.

Liturgy of the Ordinary, by Tish Harrison Warren, is available on the Redeemer book table. We also want to point you to a helpful book regarding worship both in the church setting and in our homes. Liturgy of the Ordinary: Sacred Practices in Everyday Life by Tish Harrison Warren is available on the church book table now. The book is structured around aspects of public worship, such as baptism, confession of sins and the passing of the peace, and connects those practices of the church to moments in our everyday lives.

It is so useful to consider the ways in which we are called daily to bring our shortcomings before the cross just as we confess our sins in worship, bring shalom to our homes and neighborhood just as we pass the peace on Sunday, and how we can feed on God's Word in our hearts throughout our days and weeks past the Sunday church service.

We can continue the teaching and training in our homes this summer through conversations with our children and family worship. The flexibility of summer opens up more time to tend the valuable, rich soil God has given us in our children to plant seeds for His Kingdom as we seek to train up our children in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6). We look forward to seeing you for our final day of CE classes on Sunday, May 14!
