We are pleased to announce the hire of three new members of the Redeemer staff.

Sarah Doerfler will join the staff as Assistant to the Senior Pastor and Special Projects Coordinator. Tara Gibbs will serve as Director of Women’s Ministry, a newly-created role on the Redeemer staff. Aron Jang will be Redeemer’s Summer Youth Intern, serving from June through August.

Sarah will take over responsibilities from Harriet Peavy, who retires in June, managing Senior Pastor Tom Gibbs’ schedule and coordinating lay responsibilities during worship services and other important aspects of worship throughout the year. As Redeemer grows and takes on new ministry initiatives, Sarah will also provide administrative support to those efforts as special projects coordinator.

Sarah and her husband, Max, came to Redeemer in 2018 after moving to San Antonio from Richmond, Virginia. Sarah has worked as an English teacher, run a family portrait photography business, and most recently served as part time director of the West End Community ESL School in Richmond. The Doerflers have four children, Cade, 17; Prentice, 15; Addie, 13; and Millie, 12.

Tara Gibbs has served as Women’s Bible Study Coordinator for the last year, revamping women’s bible study with a new format during a time of great growth and energy for women’s ministry at Redeemer. As director of women’s ministry, Tara will work closely with women’s ministry leaders in the congregation to continue the growth, momentum and development of this key ministry. Assistant Pastor Brad Tubbesing’s role will now include pastoral oversight of both Women’s Ministry and Men’s Ministry at Redeemer.

This position represents a return to vocational ministry for Tara. After college graduation, Tara served as an intern for Reformed University Fellowship at Auburn University, where she met Tom. The Gibbs later started RUF at Baylor University before coming to San Antonio to plant Redeemer in 2002. Tara has also served as publications director for Sav-A-Life Pregnancy Care Centers, publications coordinator for Covenant Theological Seminary and managing editor of In Covenant magazine. She previously led women’s ministry at Redeemer in a volunteer capacity from 2011-2013. Most recently she has worked as an educator for the Edwards Aquifer Authority, teaching children where their water comes from and how to take care of it.

Aron Jang is a senior at Texas A&M University majoring in Aerospace Engineering. A native of Houston, Aron came to faith the summer before college after being invited to Bay Area Presbyterian Church, and continued growing as a Christian in college through RUF at A&M and Westminster Presbyterian Church in College Station. Aron is now exploring a call to ministry and intends to enroll in seminary after college graduation.

As Youthies and parents will know, the summer is a very busy time for the Redeemer youth group, and we are excited to have Aron on board to build relationships and assist with the work of youth ministry.

Sarah, Tara and Aron will officially start on June 3rd. Please join us in welcoming them and in praying for them as they embark on these new roles!
