Redeemer is pleased to announce the hire of Matthew Peacock as Interim Director of Music Ministry.

Matthew is a Master Sergeant in the Air Force and is currently the Section Chief of Publicity as well as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the popular musical ensemble “Velocity,” with the U.S. Air Force Band of the West at JBSA – Lackland Air Force Base. He is a native of Monroe, Louisiana and is married to Nina Peacock. They have three children, Autumn, Evangeline and Dale. The family first came to Redeemer in 2019. Matthew has previously served on the Redeemer worship team playing the piano, and in 2020 took on a larger volunteer role in continuing the music ministry of the church when Redeemer’s services moved to livestream.

RPC Senior Pastor Tom Gibbs says Matthew will serve in a part-time capacity on the Redeemer staff, overseeing music for weekly worship services and leadership for the other programs of Redeemer’s music ministry. The work of Redeemer’s search committee for a permanent director of music ministry will continue.

“Matthew is an incredible talent, and we’re so excited that he will be able to offer leadership to Redeemer’s music ministry during this time,” Gibbs says.

Matthew is part of the third generation in his family to serve in the military, and while moving around the world in the course of his military career, he has used his musical talents to serve and lead in multiple churches and military chapels. He has had seven duty stations and performed as a pianist over five continents, from countries as varied as Poland, Afghanistan, Ghana, Australia, and Malaysia, and returned to the United States in 2019.

Matthew says his family came to Redeemer on their first Sunday in San Antonio at the invitation of their friends David and Melanie Hsieh, who they had known in a previous overseas station. They felt immediately at home.

“We’re so in love with the mission and vision of Redeemer,” he says. “I’m thrilled to be in a position to be involved in the ministry and furthering the kingdom of Christ in the city with the congregation.” Peacock family photo

Pastor Gibbs expressed special thanks for the work of Sarah Doerfler, RPC Assistant to the Senior Pastor and Special Projects Coordinator, who has been managing administrative work for the music program over the last year.

“Sarah has provided outstanding administrative support to our music team,” he says. “We are so thankful for her joyful, servant spirit.”

Matthew’s first day on the Redeemer staff will be October 1st. Please join us in welcoming him and encouraging him in this new role!
