VIVO Conference at Redeemer in October

In October, Redeemer will have the honor of hosting the Hispanic Leadership Initiative’s VIVO Conference. I want to encourage Redeemer’s members to attend and take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and wisdom this conference has to offer our congregation.

Redeemer is a founding church of the Hispanic Leadership Initiative (HLI), an organization that provides mentoring and financial support to Hispanic seminary students, church officers and others called to ministry in the Presbyterian Church in America and other denominations. I serve as the current president of HLI’s board. You can learn more about HLI HERE.

The VIVO Conference is hosted bi-annually by HLI to give minority ministry leaders and those who serve with them a place to connect and learn from one another. It is also a great opportunity for our congregation to learn from these leaders about ministering to minorities and to deepen our understanding of the culture around us.

Keynote speakers include Paul Hahn of Mission to North America and Ronnie Garcia, lead pastor of Iglesia la Travesia in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I will be a workshop presenter, as will RPC Senior Pastor Tom Gibbs. Workshop titles include “Being a Witness to Your Latino Catholic Neighbor,” “How Much Salsa is in Your Service? How Culture Impacts Worship,” and “Practical Ways to Build Relationships with Hispanics in Your Community.”

Registration is open for the VIVO Conference HERE; rates go up after September 15th. The conference begins Thursday evening, October 4th and continues through noon on Saturday, October 6th. Please mark your calendars and make a point to attend. I think you will find great encouragement in hearing from these partners in the Gospel.
